Not long ago Alynda was scheduled to visit a Relief Society Home, Family, and Personal Enrichment meeting. She was asked to speak on bread and how it related to spirituality. She told me what she was planning, how yeast is vital to making good bread, etc. Immediately, this thought came to mind, which I just had to share: "inasmuch as you have done it to one of the yeast of these..."
Here's a few others:
"Dough your best to get a rise out of them"
"I guess you'll be speaking to the rising generation"
"I hope you can raise them to a higher level"

I thought I was being so clever - guess not!
OK - so this afternoon Alynda and I made a quick trip to Porter's (craft store) so she could pick out some fabric for a very cool quilt she is making. Alynda found what she needed and took a bolt of fabric to the counter so the piece she needed could be cut. At the counter there were some little refrigerator magnets with sayings on them about quilters, like "Quilters really know how to cut corners." I tried to add a few of my own, and finally came up with: "Quilters - they are really on the cutting edge." Now, I thought that was pretty good and so did my bride.
But here's one that didn't fly...we took the fabric to the front of the store to pay for it. The total came to $5.01. In my mind I'm thinking "501's - Levis!" I cleverly say, "Hmmm, 501, I thought we were buying fabric, not jeans." Alynda looked at me like, "What kind of a dumb thing is that to say!" I had to explain, "you know, $5.01, 501, levis?" She got it but still didn't think it was funny (me either, actually). There were two 20-somethings at the cash register...they never got it. One of them turned to the other and said, "I didn't get that." Oh well, I guess every pun can't be brilliant!

Names at the ballet and reading my mind
We recently had the opportunity to attend Kennedy's (our granddaughter) ballet recital. As we waited for things to begin I was perusing the program and taking note of interesting names. One of the first names in particular caught my attention: October. I turned to Alynda and said, "Look at this name...if this young lady had red hair, and ever got lost..." Before I could finish my sentence she said, "it would be the hunt for red October!" I guess that is a sign of how long we've been married. Alynda can figure out my sick humor before I even utter it!

My Dad
So, I am Jen...Bruce's daughter. I told him he needed to make this blog so the rest of us could enjoy a chuckle or a groan on a regular basis, because let's face it...Dad is funny, or should I say "punny?" So, enjoy the musings of Bruce, and be sure and stop by often!
Retro Pun
You may have noticed that McDonald's is putting McCafes in their restaurants - coffee bars selling drinks similar to Starbucks. Mickey D's is attempting to compete with Starbucks in the coffee biz in a big way. I have a little ABC News video clip I use in my business strategy class that prompts some interesting discussion on McDonalds' competitive efforts. One of the questions I ask is, "OK, what should McDonald's do to make certain they are successful?" In class, on the day we were discussing this one student said, "I think McDonald's should acquire all of the other coffee companies, so there are no more competitors besides Starbucks." I said, "So, if they really did that, would they be considered McQuisitions?"
Bruce's Pun O' The Day
Today I was visiting with my daughter and son-in-law and we were reminiscing about last week's pun. My son-in-law mentioned that I should write a book about puns. To which I replied, without hesitation, "We'll call it 'Once Upun a Time!'"
